I’ve seen this ad a  few times while watching the Olympics; it is such a motivating ad with those same three little words: Just Do It.

Embrace Life – The Best PSA Ever?

Posted: February 27th, 2010 | Author: Shaun | Filed under: Ads, TV, Video, Viral | 2 Comments »

I meant to post this a LONG time ago. But as you can see by the lack of updates, I never got a chance.

Emotional and captivating, this road safety PSA from the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership might be one of the most effective and beautiful PSA’s I have ever seen. With over 2,000,000 views on YouTube, it’s already a viral hit.

See, PSA’s don’t have to be cheesy or use scare tactics in order to work. They have to create a believable emotional connection with their target, and this spot does just that.

McDonald’s Old vs. New (commercial)

Here’s a look at the new Lebron James and Dwight Howard McDonald’s commercial verses the original Michael Jordan and Larry Bird McDonald’s commercial. I personally like the idea of the new one, but I don’t like how it is all fake dunks, or simulated dunks I should say. They probably have strings and use other camera magic to pull of all these humanly impossible dunks. Otherwise I like watching them both. Which is your favorite?

What an absolute gem of a commercial this is.  It’s hysterical and well executed…a big win for Old Spice.

Shaun’s Favorite Super Bowl Commercial of 2010

Posted: February 10th, 2010 | Author: Shaun | Filed under: Ads, Video, Web | Tags: , , , | 3 Comments »

Ok, so this a tough choice. Like Zach said below, many of this years spots where meh.  You had 3 commercials of guys wearing no pants, Go Daddy continued to fail big time, and most spots lacked originality and a real sense of strategy.

Going by my first impressions, the Snickers ad with Betty White was my favorite. It’s also refreshing to see that Snickers seems to be crafting a thorough campaign around their Super Bowl spot as they’ve unleashed a follow up spot called Road Trip.

After re-watching the commercials though, Google’s was my favorite, hands down. It may sound like a cleche choice but it was the one that stood out the most in my opinion. By far.

Rounding out my top 3 are ‘Bud Light House‘, and Denny’s ‘Screaming Chickens.’ How unbelievable was that offer? Free Grand Slams for everyone? I’d take it, along with millions of other Americans who probably did. That’s some serious ROI for you right there.

Zach’s Pick for Favorite Superbowl Commercial 2010

Posted: February 10th, 2010 | Author: Zach | Filed under: Ads, TV, Uncategorized, Video | Tags: , | No Comments »

I thought the commercials this year were ok, not as good as Ive seen in past years, but still interesting. I thought the Doritos commercials were ok, I enjoyed a few of them and others I feel like I’ve seen before. However this one above I found myself laughing the hardest at while I was watching. There were a few that could have taken the top spot for my favorite pick but I choose this one because it was very unexpected and funny. Check out the post below for all of the superbowl ads from this year and last year.

Super Bowl 2010 Ads, Courtesy of Hulu

Posted: February 8th, 2010 | Author: Shaun | Filed under: Ads, TV, Video | Tags: , , , | 2 Comments »

There were 2 games going on during Super Bowl Sunday. There was the #superbowl, which saw the New Orleans Saints defeat Peyton Manning and the Colts, and the #brandbowl, where Coca-Cola, Bud Light, Doritos, VW, Google, and Snickers, among many others, battled each other to win the hearts (and wallets) of American consumers.

Thanks to Mullen and Radian 6 for making Brand Bowl 2010 possible, we were able to see which brands were having the most success with consumers in real time. We didn’t have to wait until the next morning when the USA Today Ad Meter came out. We’re an instant gratification culture. We like seeing results as they happen.

According to the results of the Brand Bowl, Doritos had the most successful night out of any brand. Looks like their 12 million was well spent? Google and Focus on the Family round out the Top 3.

If you happened to miss the game or want to watch your favorite ads again, check out the Ad Zone widget below provided by Hulu. Speaking of Hulu, they’ve come  pretty far since they first introduced themselves to the U.S. during last years Super Bowl.  Let’s just hope they don’t ever start charging for content. We like you the way you are, Hulu.

Now go ahead, click around and watch the ads.  Feel free to tell us what you think. What were your favorite ads? How did they compare to ads from previous years?

Doritos Super Bowl Challenge: Can these “amateurs” beat the ad pros?

Doritos CTSB_2

In their latest crowdsourcing competition, Doritos is giving the the winning contestants the chance to win $5 million dollars for the commercials they produced. What do they have to do to win the cash money? They have to beat the best in the game: the ad pros, by taking the top spot in USA Today’s annual ad meter for best Super Bowl spot.

Doritos Crash The Super Bowl_1

The challenge is down to the final 6 contestants right now, and Doritos will air commercials from the 3 who garner the most votes.  I watched all of the spots here. They’re what you would expect from a typical Doritos commercial – high on slapstick comedy and tomfoolery. My favorites so far are “Casket” and “Snack Attack Samurai.”

What’s your favorite? Do you think any of these ads have a chance at taking the top spot in USA Today’s ad meter?
