Twisted Metal is Back! (trailer)

Posted: July 6th, 2010 | Author: Shaun | Filed under: Ads | Tags: , , , | View Comments

The Good News: The return of the classic Twisted Metal series was announced last week at E3! After watching the trailer about 5 times already, this newest installment looks to be nothing short of amazing.

The Bad News: It’s exclusive to PS3. That’s tough news for an Xbox kid to take. Womp, womp, womp. Buy hey, that gives me more than a few months to save up for a PS3 before it’s released sometime in 2011.

Audi takes a stab at BMW; Just friendly Competition

Posted: July 5th, 2010 | Author: Zach | Filed under: Ads, TV, Video | Tags: , , | View Comments

A while back Media Zombies posted a billboard from BMW saying “checkmate” in response to Audi’s billboard that stated “Your move BMW”. Here the roles are reversed. As a guy that doesn’t know too much about cars I’m not sure which one is actually better, I’m guessing just preference but that’s just me. Audi’s look classy, but BMW is classic.

Patagonia sends strong message with the Members Project

Posted: July 2nd, 2010 | Author: Zach | Filed under: Ads, TV, Video | Tags: , | View Comments

As a person that doesn’t do much winter sports, I hadn’t heard of this company called Patagonia until I ended up doing a case study for it while at school. The case was very intensive and challenged you to do a good amount of outside research on the company in order to answer the questions given at the end of the case. After doing a good amount of research on Patagonia I really fell in love with this company. They are so passionate about the environment and they really try to pride themselves on making the very best outdoor clothing and equipment for a number of different areas such as winter sports, hiking, climbing and surfing to name a few.

What’s interesting is that environmentalism is such a big part of their company and they really show that in this commercial by teaming up with the Members Project trying to get to donate and volunteer.

Celebs Say Thank You to the Boston Celtics

Posted: June 24th, 2010 | Author: Shaun | Filed under: Ads | Tags: , , | View Comments

You defeated D-Wade, “Superman” Howard and “King” James. You took Kobe to 7 games with Perk missing the last game. Your heart, resolve, and brotherhood are examples for teams of all sports to follow.

It’s been a week since the Celtics lost to the  Lakers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and I’m still reeling. But this ad, put together by our favorite ( or not so favorite) celebrity fans, pieced a little bit of my heart back together.  Donnie Wahlberg, Maria Menounos, Wes Wekler and that kid from Superbad are among the celebs who signed the full page Boston Globe ad that honored this years Celtics team.

This goes to show you how much passion we Celtics fans have for our team and players. There’s a much higher level of authentic fan-hood around for the Celtics than there are for the Lakers. Not to say Lakers fans don’t have passion, but do you think famous Lakers fans like Jack Nicholson, Andy Garcia, and Leonardo Dicaprio would have put together a tribute like this for their team? I say the chances of that happening are slim to none.

NBA Thanks Fans for Watching

While watching the NBA finals the other day I saw this great commercial by the NBA thanking all basketball fans for watching throughout the 2009 – 2010 season. I thought it was a great commercial and great timing during the NBA finals when every one’s watching; well Boston and LA at least. Go Celtics. Beat LA.

Adidas Goes For Intergalatic Brand Status (commercial)

Posted: June 7th, 2010 | Author: Shaun | Filed under: Ads, Creative | Tags: , , , | View Comments

I was reading an Ad Age article yesterday that said Adidas is still the biggest sporting apparel brand in the world. Well in this 2 minute spot, Adidas is claiming intergalatic market domination.

In a scene reminiscent of Star Wars: A New Hope, Snoop, David Beckham, half of Oasis, Ciara, Daft Punk, and other celebs take on the beings in the Mos Eisley Cantina. It’s no surprise that Adidas is trying to borrow a little equity from the World Cup as match play begins this weekend. I’m also not surprised they’re borrowing from Snoop’s always-cool ways – check the the video below for some cuts from March when Snoop and Darth Vader invaded NYC to promote the Star Wars shoe collection.

McDonald’s – Joe and Frank (commercial)

Awesome, awesome advertising. Well done DDB Chicago. Great story. Even better cast – the dynamic between of the characters is too great.  The inclusion of the McCafe beverage line relates well to the story, especially in the midst of the coffee wars with Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.  I think that DDB should make a mini web-series with Joe & Frank. Hopefully they will!
