Mullen is doing some good work for the Olympus brand so far. Check out the latest commercial they filmed for the Pen E-PL1 camera. I won’t ruin the ending for you. Just watch!
I was reading an Ad Age article yesterday that said Adidas is still the biggest sporting apparel brand in the world. Well in this 2 minute spot, Adidas is claiming intergalatic market domination.
In a scene reminiscent of Star Wars: A New Hope, Snoop, David Beckham, half of Oasis, Ciara, Daft Punk, and other celebs take on the beings in the Mos Eisley Cantina. It’s no surprise that Adidas is trying to borrow a little equity from the World Cup as match play begins this weekend. I’m also not surprised they’re borrowing from Snoop’s always-cool ways – check the the video below for some cuts from March when Snoop and Darth Vader invaded NYC to promote the Star Wars shoe collection.
Awesome, awesome advertising. Well done DDB Chicago. Great story. Even better cast – the dynamic between of the characters is too great. The inclusion of the McCafe beverage line relates well to the story, especially in the midst of the coffee wars with Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. I think that DDB should make a mini web-series with Joe & Frank. Hopefully they will!
Guinness, a brand known by everyone for their memorable advertising, enters a new era today with their new campaign. In the new campaign, the old tagline, ” Good Things Come To Those Who Wait” has been scrapped, and is replaced with “Bring It To Life.” The new commercial is still very “Guinness” like. The only thing different is the tagline, which the commercial expresses quite well while still remaining true to the essence of Guinness that we all know and love.
What’s the reason for the new tagline? Well when you think about it, the whole idea behind Good Things Come To Those Who Wait, is that you have to wait a little while longer for your beer to be poured at the pub. “Bring it to life” encompasses drinking the beverages at the pub, and at home, something the old tagline didn’t quite express.
So, Windows 7 is out, and no one really seems to care. Microsoft still hasn’t given me one good reason to switch to the new operating system, so I’ll be using XP until I have enough money to buy a new Mac. The new advertising for Windows 7 is nothing to shout at either. Now I never blog about how bad other advertising is, because that’s just not me, but seriously?! Microsoft what are you thiiiinking? There is nothing new in these ads. They are plain and boring. I would assume that Crispen Porter could come up with something better.
Do these ads do anything for you?! Talk to me. I’d like to know because they do nothing for me. I get what they are trying to accomplish. The ads make the brand seem personal and shows how dedicated they are to listening to consumers wants and needs. It’s a decent message, but I just don’t think it is creatively executed very well. But hey, I’m not Art Director so what do I know.
In related news, Apple has a new set of Mac vs. PC ads out. They’re good, as always.
Props to PSFK. Film maker of Art & Copy Doug Pray says:
I didn’t want to make a doc that just trashes trashy advertising. Too easy, too obvious, and why bother? Instead, granted access to a handful of the greatest advertising minds of the last fifty years, I felt it could be a more powerful statement to focus the film only on those rare few who actually moved and inspired our culture with their work. And that higher standard made me want to make a film that reflected the same kind of disciplined artistic approach that my subjects used.
Now this is kind of cool. These guys just brought together two great sources of fun from childhood: Lego’s and the original Nintendo. How about the free promotion that the two brands recieve from this. The video is spreading like wildfire and the it already has over 200,000 views on YouTube.
