So, Windows 7 is out, and no one really seems to care. Microsoft still hasn’t given me one good reason to switch to the new operating system, so I’ll be using XP until I have enough money to buy a new Mac. The new advertising for Windows 7 is nothing to shout at either. Now I never blog about how bad other advertising is, because that’s just not me, but seriously?! Microsoft what are you thiiiinking? There is nothing new in these ads. They are plain and boring. I would assume that Crispen Porter could come up with something better.
Do these ads do anything for you?! Talk to me. I’d like to know because they do nothing for me. I get what they are trying to accomplish. The ads make the brand seem personal and shows how dedicated they are to listening to consumers wants and needs. It’s a decent message, but I just don’t think it is creatively executed very well. But hey, I’m not Art Director so what do I know.
In related news, Apple has a new set of Mac vs. PC ads out. They’re good, as always.
Look at these kids. They’re happy as can be, thanks in part to a nifty little campaign by ColaLife.
PSFK wrote an article on ColaLife a couple of days ago that immediately caught my attention. ColaLife is a campaign to get Coca-Cola to open up its mass distribution channels to help save children’s lives. The folks at ColaLife know that people, mainly children, can buy a bottle of Coke in a developing country, but what they can’t always buy is survival, because 1 in 5 children die before the age of 5 from preventable causes such as dehydration.
To help combat the problem, ColaLife sends “social products”, oral rehydration salts, vitamin A tablets and more via an ‘airpod’ to to developing countries. These are basically simple, everyday nutrients that people like you and I take for granted that children in 3rd world countries are deprived of. The ‘airpod’ is designed to hold these “social products” and fits neatly into Coca-Cola crates so these products can be delivered to kids in need.
So far, ColaLife has mainly gained support through social media and word of mouth. Find out how you can help spread the word here. .
I helped support the effort by blogging about it. If you have a blog, Twitter, Facebook, anything, all it takes is a couple clicks and sharing of links to help support this brilliant movement as well.
