Mos Def Selling His New Album On A T Shirt

Mos Def’s latest album, The Ecstatic, has sold around 40,000 copies since its release last week. Mos Def hopes to add to that total by selling a digital copy of his album on a T-shirt in July. The shirt will cost $39 and will have code on it that lets each fan who buys it download the album online. Soundscan is actually reported count sales of the shirt as official album sales.
Let me tell you, this is a smart move right here. Not only is it giving fans added incentive to buy the album, but its also creating more profit for the artist because, as designer Jeremy Wineberg said, ” You’re bypassing the middleman, like iTunes.”
