Ok, so this a tough choice. Like Zach said below, many of this years spots where meh. You had 3 commercials of guys wearing no pants, Go Daddy continued to fail big time, and most spots lacked originality and a real sense of strategy.
Going by my first impressions, the Snickers ad with Betty White was my favorite. It’s also refreshing to see that Snickers seems to be crafting a thorough campaign around their Super Bowl spot as they’ve unleashed a follow up spot called Road Trip.
After re-watching the commercials though, Google’s was my favorite, hands down. It may sound like a cleche choice but it was the one that stood out the most in my opinion. By far.
Rounding out my top 3 are ‘Bud Light House‘, and Denny’s ‘Screaming Chickens.’ How unbelievable was that offer? Free Grand Slams for everyone? I’d take it, along with millions of other Americans who probably did. That’s some serious ROI for you right there.
In their latest crowdsourcing competition, Doritos is giving the the winning contestants the chance to win $5 million dollars for the commercials they produced. What do they have to do to win the cash money? They have to beat the best in the game: the ad pros, by taking the top spot in USA Today’s annual ad meter for best Super Bowl spot.
The challenge is down to the final 6 contestants right now, and Doritos will air commercials from the 3 who garner the most votes. I watched all of the spots here. They’re what you would expect from a typical Doritos commercial – high on slapstick comedy and tomfoolery. My favorites so far are “Casket” and “Snack Attack Samurai.”
What’s your favorite? Do you think any of these ads have a chance at taking the top spot in USA Today’s ad meter?
CareerBuilder.com, the largest online job site in the U.S, is giving consumers a chance to create their own Super Bowl commercial for the website. The winner will be awarded $100,000. Although Career Builder had a successfulSuper Bowl commercial created by Wieden + Kennedy last February, the thought of having another commercial produced by the agency might be too costly. If all goes according to plan, the buzz that the contest will create may be more cost effective than producing a high budget commercial.
I don’t see Career Builder gaining the same amount of success with this contest as Frito-Lay did with their $ 1 million contest offering. Not only was there more incentive for consumers to create an ad for Dorito’s, but more consumers could relate to the brand more and have fun with it. The upside to this, job seekers should have ample amount of time to come up with a good ad idea while unemployed. They have nothing better to do.
That reminds me, this is a great opportunity for recently graduated advertising students to get their creative juices flowing while they are still looking for a job in this awful economy. It’s also something to add to the portfolio!
Arizona Cardinals vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. I could care less who wins, but I’m slightly pulling for the Cards to come out on top. One team will win, and the other will lose, and at the same time, many advertisements will entertain the masses while some will make you wonder ” What where they thinking?!?”
You may have heard that a lot of ads have leaked already, but we decided not to post them until after the big game to keep the element of surprise alive. There will the typical ads from the major soda and beer manufactures, and….? Cash 4 Gold? Those annoying direct response ads that tell you to mail in your gold in exchange for some added cash? Cash 4 Gold has actually blown up in the past year by playing into peoples need for extra money during these tough times. AdAge reported that the company grew from 2 employees to 350 in 2007. The ad will feature MC Hammer and Ed McMahon.
Tomorrow nights onslaught of advertisements should prove to be funny, entertaining, varied, and ridiculous. We’ll be posting our favorite ads from the game, so be sure to chime in with your favorites in the comments section.
Hey folks, here is a look at the 2-d version of the ad for SoBe Life Water that will air during the Super Bowl. Look for the 3-D spot during the big game, and don’t forgot to pick up those spiffy glasses to get the full experience.
After watching this, I’m not really sure what to think. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all cool and entertaining, but I think that SoBe needs to focus more on the benefits of the actual drink than a bunch of lizards and nfl players doing a jig.
Only 23 days left until the biggest day of the year for advertisers is upon us. Now that my Pats won’t be in the big one this year, this means all I have to look forward to are the ads, which should prove to be quite entertaining. DreamWorks, SoBe, and Intel have teamed up to provide a 3-D set of ads. I’m loving this idea right here.
